I’m so excited! I was recently nominated by Simply Amanda for the Sunshine Blogger Award! I could not be more thrilled or honored to receive this nomination. Thank you so much!!

WHAT is the Sunshine Blogger award?

The Sunshine Blogger Award is an award given to bloggers who are inspiring, creative and bring sunshine into the lives of their readers and other fellow bloggers.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated them and link back to their blog
  • Answer questions the nominating blogger has created for you
  • List other bloggers that you nominate for the Sunshine Blogger Award
  • Create 11 questions for the bloggers that you have nominated
  • Let your nominees know that they have been nominated

My questions & Answers:

What is the story behind your blog’s name?

I worked on this name for a long time. I was really struggling with that whole “Wanderlust” theory that seems to be everywhere, but also wanting my audience to understand this wasn’t strictly a travel blog. I am a homebody at heart, and I love to make my world – environment – into a home. For me, that is through cooking, baking and basic homesteading. I played with Wanderlust and Homesteading and found that this combination worked best for what I was trying to convey! What do you think?

What is the most exciting thing you have ever done?

You know, I thought about this for a while before answering. I feel I’ve lived a pretty calm life, in the whole scheme of things. I haven’t jumped from an airplane, or eaten weird insects, or been chased by a grizzly bear {good thing!!}. I honestly think the most exciting, exhilarating, terrifying thing I have ever done or experienced was when my daughter was born. It is both a blur and exceptionally lucid, if that makes sense. When I think back on it, it’s almost as if I’m an observer.

If you were on a deserted island and could only take 3 items with you, what would they be?

Well, I’m going to assume my family isn’t an item…so aside from that?? Seed potatoes so I can plant them and have something to eat all the time. A bunch of notebooks/pencils so I can keep track of my thoughts {I’m never very far from a notebook at any given time}. Last? Well, it’s a tie between a LOT OF CHOCOLATE and maybe a great cocktail in unlimited supply :D.

How long have you been blogging for?

I had two blogs several years ago. I had difficulty with them as I felt like I was never really honest in them. I took a bit of a hiatus for a while, and really worked on a plan for what I envisioned my blog turning into. I came up with more of a design, an identity and even started working on blog posts. The launch of The Wanderstead Wife started in March of 2017. VERY new in the blogging world, but loving it so much!

What is your number one Holy Grail beauty product you can’t live without?

Oh boy. Honestly, I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to my beauty routine {read that as: lazy}. I always put on a moisturizer/sunscreen in the morning though, whether I go nude face or with make-up.

If money wasn’t a factor, what would be your dream job?

Blogging full time :). Doing all the things that I speak about in my blog, like full blown homesteading, but also traveling, and (likely) homeschooling my daughter. I would be busy canning, gardening, raising animals, working on DIY projects and {obviously} very busy in the kitchen when we weren’t out traveling. I would love to get a 5th wheel and take a year or two to just travel the lower 48 with the family, truly experiencing places rather than simply driving through.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

I would love the ability to communicate and understand people on a non-verbal level. Know what they are thinking (mind reading in a sense) but only when I turned it on. I wouldn’t want to know everything all the time. Leave a little to the imagination!!

What inspires you the most?

This is so hard. I feel like I find inspiration in all kinds of places, from my family – children, husband, parents, sister, cousins, etc – , to my work, to the world around me. I feel that I can honestly become inspired by many different things in many different way. Does that make sense? I suppose it depends on what the inspiration is. Cooking? Throw me in front of some amazing chefs and let me watch them and voila!! Inspiration!

What do you do for a living? If you are a full-time blogger, how long did it take you to get there?

I am a Special Education teacher working with students from Kindergarten to 8th grade this year. I mostly work as a Resource Specialist, meaning I am not their primary teacher, rather the support for the skills that the student needs extra help in (Language Arts, Math, Executive Functioning, etc).

What is your favorite vacation spot?

At this point, it’s a pretty tight tie between Alaska and Hawaii for me. I haven’t been to Hawaii since I moved away {I spent my first semester of college at UH Hilo}. We plan to go back next summer so I’ll know for sure at that point! Both locations are very different. I go to each for different desires. That said, I’ve never been to Ireland and I suspect that would win the competition ;).

What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?

I am SO not an adventurous eater. No insects. No weird or strange meats. Not even any funky and smelly cheese for me!! I’m sorry! I like weird things that lots of people don’t, if that counts. I like sauerkraut and beets. Does that help my case?

My Questions for the nominated bloggers:

  1. What fictional place would you most like to visit and why?
  2. What is the meaning of the name of your blog?
  3. What song(s) do you have COMPLETELY memorized?
  4. Who’s your go-to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?
  5. What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?
  6. What was your childhood favorite meal, and what is it now?
  7. What do you do for a living? If it is full-time blogging, how long did it take you to get to that point?
  8. Where do you usually go when you have time off?
  9. What is special about the place you grew up?
  10. What can you not get right, no matter how many times you try?
  11. What irrational fear do you have?

I'm doing what I can to provide the best life I can for my family. I love cooking & baking, homestead arts, DIY, and gardening {as well as coming up with projects for Mr. Wanderstead Husband!!}...but I love to explore the world around us too! We will figure out how to do it, and eat well while trying.
